What is Plantar Fasciitis?
Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the tissue along the bottom of your foot. It causes heel pain and is common in nursing due to constant standing on hard floors.
Why Nurses Get It
Prolonged standing, walking on concrete, inadequate support, and repeated impact all increase risk. 12-hour shifts put constant stress on the fascia.
Prevention Strategies
- Wear proper shoes: Dansko and Brooks Ghost provide excellent arch support
- Stretch regularly: Calf stretches reduce tension
- Rest between shifts: Don't work consecutive 12-hour shifts
- Use orthotics: Custom or over-the-counter support
- Ice after shifts: 15-20 minutes reduces inflammation
Best Shoe for PF: Dansko XP 2.0 clogs provide superior arch support for immediate relief.
